The Urban Mobility Days, organised by CIVITAS and DGHome of the European Commission, gathers local and national authorities, EU policymakers, NGOs, researchers, and industry leaders in the field of urban mobility for a three-day event of knowledge exchange and insights!

a new sustainable focus on eu urban nodes

This year’s event focused on new sustainable ways to enhance urban mobility. During the first day, participants had an overview of the European transport corridors and the importance of interconnection with urban nodes; during the sessions were presented several projects and infrastructure constructions to increase the strengthen of the corridors. It was underlined the importance of a strong rail network across all the countries within a specific TEN-T corridor. Furthermore, the multimodal passenger hubs have been presented as a new strategic node to decrease urban congestion, both from vehicles and public transport side.

On the second day, cycling and related mobility infrastructure took the floor, as a new and innovative topic in the urban mobility across the EU countries. Cycling was also presented as an effective means to face the problem of poverty mobility, due to the accessibility and minor costs of maintenance of the mean of transport. So that, it was clear that urban nodes will have to increase the capillarity of cycle lanes and the accessibility to bike sharing for all the categories that struggle to access to this service. Afterwards, the discussion moved to the role of green public transport in the urban mobility systems in the last day of the meeting.

Finally, it was underlined the importance and link between passenger mobility and logistics; not only for the urban nodes and Last Mile Delivery, but also for the first mile logistics. This is an important aspect stressed by the Commission, because design holistic solutions for both logistics and mobility of passenger will enable a more effective and fast sustainable transition.

The Urban Mobility Days 2025 proved to be an important stage to connect with relevant stakeholders and learn from innovative realities in the urban mobility across Europe, and to go in depth in the development of new solutions in different contexts.

A special thank you to the organizers, and to all the speakers and projects that made UMD2025 an impressive event, and to City of Vilnius for hosting us in the wonderful European Green Capital 2025!
