Dr. Thomas H Zunder FCILT appointed Honorary Member of OPEN ENLoCC for his valuable contribution

Dr. Thomas H Zunder was appointed an Honorary Member of the European Network of Logistics Competence Centers by the OPEN ENLoCC members’ meeting because of his valuable contribution to the Association. This is the first time in the history of the Network that an Honorary Member has been appointed.

Tom Zunder, an academic and experienced commercial manager, was a member of the Network until December 2023 as a representative of Newcastle University, which left the Network at the end of last year for internal reasons.

Thanks to his international network of contacts in the academia, business and government, including the European Commission, in recent years Tom  has brought an important added value to the OPEN ENLoCC Network, contributing significantly to the development of the Network’s activities and projects. Contribution that he will continue to bring in the future as an Honorary Member, the first in the history of the Network.

Tom managed purchasing, production control, distribution, ICT and supply chain in the international manufacturing industry for 15 years. For the last 21+ years he has pursued an international academic career, rising to the position of Principal Research Associate at the University of Newcastle where he is responsible for conducting and managing the results and dissemination of academic and applied research projects.

3 decades of experience in purchasing and supply chain management has involved the analysis and implementation of innovative solutions in the fields of road, rail and sea freight, production control and ICT.  In addiction, Dr. Zunder has an extensive portfolio of publications: procedia, trade press, book chapters and journal articles. He teaches on Future Mobility MSc courses at Newcastle University, as well as having researched and delivered international curriculum development for rail operations and logistics. He has worked as an evaluator and project reviewer for the European Commission in the field of Public Procurement for Innovation [PPI]; a member of the Connecting Places Catapult Business Fellows Network; an associate editor for the journal IET: Intelligent Transport Systems; a member of the Executive Committee of the Universities Transport Study Group (UK); member of the Advisory Board of the journal European Transport Research Review; as well as a member of the Permanent Academic Group of the European Railway Research Advisory Council (EU). Finally, Dr. Zunder is a qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply and a qualified Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
