Combining passengers and freight flows “Cargo Hitching”
Renewed organisational paradigms encompass exploiting potential synergies that extend beyond the boundaries of freight transport alone.
In this regard, it is worth mentioning “cargo hitching”, which can also be referred to “crowdshipping” or “crowd logistics” approach, an innovative delivery model that leverages digital platforms to match shipment demand with excess transport capacity from the crowd (Ermagun and Stathopoulos, 2020). This approach may utilise public vehicles such as buses or trains, rideshare vehicles, or private cars, aiming to combine passenger and freight flows synergistically.
