History

Open ENLOCC was established as a follow up of “ENLoCC”, a project by partners from

  • Stuttgart Region, Germany,
  • Wielkopolska Region (Poznan), Poland,
  • Emilia-Romagna Region (Bologna), Italy,
  • Carinthia Region (Klagenfurt), Austria.

The main purpose of ENLoCC was to establish regional logistics competence centres in each region and to foster projects in the field of goods mobility. Since the flow of goods typically involves several regions, the competennce centres were supposed to cooperate and form a network for their knowledge base. In the last phase of the project, the network was formally established and opened to other partners. ENLoCC itself, finished by the end of 2007, was part-financed by the European Union within the INTERREG IIIC programme.

In November 2006, the “Open ENLoCC” network was established on the first General Assembly in Stuttgart, with 11 members from different regions across Europe.

Since that time, the Open ENLoCC members have met yearly: Malmö 2007, Napoli 2008 and Turku 2009. The formalities of a network form only a small part of the meetings. Mainly, the purpose is project debate, listening to lectures and learning about the hosting partner organization.

This has proven a valuable tool to create new projects among the partners. The CASTLE project has already been established, others are in the process of formation. At the end of 2009, Open ENLoCC as a network did a first joint workshop with Campania region in Napoli.
